My primary instrument is a Böhm flute and my musical background is Western Common Practice. However, for the last 12 years I have been taking a deep dive into Mediterranean and Middle Eastern music. Before Covid, I had a few years of experience playing a Bulgarian Kaval. Wanting to get back into end-blown flutes, I ordered three Neys. The B Ney was from another source, but the D and E Neys were from Arab Instruments. I am happy with all three. All are solidly made, look really great, and seem to play well.
For any of you with a Western background, I will say that you have to be patient with learning to play in tune. Unlike silver flutes and Kavals, Neys have to be tuned by adjusting your embouchure, breath pressure, and suchlike. For me, it has helped to play scales and long tones against a tuner. The Arab Instruments YouTube channel has tons of great advice. The best thing about getting a good Ney at the outset is that you can tell that the maker has carefully adjusted it to play in tune when your technique is good.

The handwork of this darbuka is really a piece of art. It is really beautiful and the sound is very clear. I am enjoying every time when i play.
Absolutely perfect for slaps and rolls, slightly less of a traditional arabic sound but there's nothing wrong with that. Sounds great!
1. Design is a subjective matter but I really appreciate the lack of repetitive patters, it gives it such a hand-made and authentic look. Its a beautiful mess, in line with the philosophical meaning of the yin and yang.
2. The sound is truly awesome. I've only ever played traditional solo darbukas from Syria, it is taking quite a bit to get used to the size but the sound is so damn powerful.
3. Take care of it and it'll last a lifetime.
